GBI Confirms Investigation into MPD's Fatal Shooting

NewsCentral Staff

It's been nearly two weeks since Sammy Davis, Jr. died at the hands of a Macon police officer, but few facts are being released about the investigation.

Many of WGXA questions are hitting a stonewall of silence.

This morning, WGXA tried speaking with District Attorney David Cooke before Wednesday's County Commission meeting. He refused to comment on the Davis case saying the investigation is now in the hands of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI).

Late Wednesday afternoon, the GBI's office in Perry confirmed investigators are looking into the case.

They stated that once their investigation is complete, they will turn the case back over to the District Attorney's office.

Sammie Davis, 49, was shot three times in the chest by officer Clayton Sutton on December 21 in the Kroger's parking lot on Pio Nono Ave. He died shortly after the shooting.
