Bibb County Sheriff David Davis will appear before the Bibb County Commission Wednesday to discuss the future of the consolidated government's law enforcement.
Sheriff Davis said the department will change its uniforms and design of the cars as the Sheriff's Department merges with the Macon police department.
He also said some administration changes have to be made to absorb the Macon police officers. It's mandated by a legislative act under the civil service system of the county sheriff's office.
"Any of the law enforcement officer, both at the police department and the sheriff's office and then in the merge agency, that they have some service protection. Some of the things we are doing now is to ensure that," said Davis.
WGXA asked Davis if there would be a position for Macon Police Chief Mike Burns in the new consolidated force. Davis said he will try to keep a place for everyone.
He added there will be a chief over the law enforcement office of the sheriff's office, but there will be a selection process for that position as consolidation moves forward.
