Red Cross Helping Macon Apartment Fire Victims

NewsCentral Staff

Fire Investigators are still working to find out what caused an apartment fire last Friday night.

WGXa first broke news of the fire at East Ridge Apartments during WGXA News at 10 p.m.

Several people lost their homes, but Macon-Bibb Fire Chief Marvin Riggins says firefighters were able to get everyone out and even save some animals trapped in the apartments.

Riggins says the fire started in a downstairs unit and spread from there. He adds, "It probably took us an hour or so to get the fire under control. It did initially turn into a second alarm fire for a brief time".

Firefighters spent several hours at the apartments knocking down hot spots.

The Red Cross helped families with destroyed or damaged homes.
