Bibb County Students can expect longer school day this fall.
The high schools in the Bibb system received federal school improvement grants that require an additional 60 hours each year to remain eligible.
Donald Porter, Director of Public Relations for the Bibb County Board of Education, says, "So what the Bibb County School District did they got together for these five high schools and tried to see logistically how can we add those minutes and looked at a lot of different scenario and what they decided was they can add the minutes at the high school level, but they looked at the instructional benefit and wanted to apply it to all students in Bibb County so that's what they did."
The schools in the system will have the same start times with an added 20 to 30 minutes per day, depending on the grade level. Longer School days come with no additional cost.
