Bibb, Butts Counties Collaborate in $270K Drug Bust

Drug investigators displayed the 60 pounds of high grade marijuana taken off of Macon's streets back on November 29.

"We received information that this shipment was being placed," said Butts County Sheriff Gene Pope.

Sheriff Pope says that they often intercept drugs but when there's no recipient, that's often the end of it.

"But this time we were able to establish a destination so that we could make the arrest," said Pope.

That destination took them to a house on Ormond Terrace in Macon. That's where investigators arrested Frederick Card, 26, and Deunte Stewart, 24.

Armed with tips from the Butts County Sheriff's Department, Bibb drug investigators were able to intercept the shipment, from there undercover officers delivered the package.

"As soon as the suspect (Card) signed for the container, we had other investigators in the area that moved in on signal and made the arrest," said Cpt. Harry Colbert of the Bibb Drug Unit.

Drug investigators say the pot seized was of the highest grade and the 60 pounds of the illegal weed has a street value of about $270,000.

"This kind of marijuana shipment right here is not going to involve one person or two people," said Pope.

Sheriffs say they will stay in contact until the source is also behind bars.

"This is all of our problem," said Pope. "It's not just a Butts County or Bibb County or any other county's problem. It's all of our problem. When you see things like this traveling down the interstate it can affect any neighborhood in the state."

Investigators would not comment on where the shipment came from or what else was in the container because the investigation is ongoing.

Card and Stewart are being charged with felony counts of trafficking marijuana with further indictments pending.
