A Crawford County woman is outraged and heartbroken after a number of dogs she was fostering are killed.
She suspects some of the dogs were poisoned."They were seizing and vomiting up blood,” said Stephanie Wammock, the “Mother” of nine dogs. “So we had to make the decision to put them to sleep."
Stephanie Wammock had to make that decision after seven of her nine dogs fell ill Saturday afternoon at her Crawford County home on Bentley Road. After Stephanie found raw meat on the property, she called the cops.
Crawford County Sheriff Lewis Walker adds, "It's possible where dogs were poisoned out on Bentley Road, so the sheriff's office responded." The Sheriff says they're looking into the poisoning after only two of Stephanie's dogs lived the others had to be laid to rest.
"I'm crushed,” says Stephanie Wammock. “My Family's crushed. Our hearts are really heavy." Stephanie says there's no reason for anyone to want to kill her dogs and she is going to keep a close eye out for the survivors after this poisoning. "These dogs were not just pets,” she adds. “They were a part of our family."
Residents along Bentley road are a little bit concerned for their own dogs. Randy Joe Vonson is a dog owner on Bentley Road. He says, "If it's that close to me, someone is roaming the neighborhood and doing this purposefully." Randy has lived there for two years and says that his heart goes out to Stephanie and couldn't imagine that happening to his JoJo. "I just have to pray that it doesn't happen to me and that it doesn't happen to JoJo."
This bizarre episode has deputies and the Wommocks looking for answers. "It's an ongoing investigation at this time and we have investigators out on the scene following up on some leads now," adds Sheriff Walker.
Stephanie has a message for her dog's killer, "You don't scare us. You are not going to stop us from rescuing and you are not going to stops us from adopting."
Anyone that may have information on what may have happened is asked to call the Crawford County Sheriff's Office at 478- 836-3116.
