Jeff Cox

Chief Meteorologist

Chief Meteorologist Jeff Cox joined the WGXA team in August of 2009.  This is Jeff's second stint as Chief Meteorologist at WGXA - his first from April 2005 to August 2007.

Jeff grew up in Asheville, North Carolina and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Asheville in 2005 with a degree in Atmospheric Sciences with a concentration in weather forecasting.

Jeff has several years of broadcasting and forecasting experience.  Following his two and a half year stint in Macon, Jeff worked as a Radio Broadcast Meteorologist for The Weather Channel in Atlanta, Georgia.  Jeff could be heard on numerous radio stations across the nation in addition to XM/Sirius Satellite radio.  In 2008, Jeff decided to return home to Asheville and joined Ray's Weather Center (found online at RaysWeather.com), the most widely read media outlet in northwest North Carolina.  Responsible for delivering forecasts for over 50 locations in western North Carolina, Jeff says it's by far the hardest forecasting he has ever done!

Jeff owes his love and dedication of weather to two separate weather events - Hurricane Hugo in 1989 and The Blizzard of '93 in March of 1993.

Jeff married his wonderful wife Kacey in May of 2006.  You may have heard Jeff mention their beagle Abby from time to time. Well, there's a new addition brewing! Jeff and his wife Kacey are expecting their first child in March of 2013.

In his spare time, Jeff enjoys cheering on his
UNC-Asheville Bulldogs, the Atlanta Braves and watching NASCAR.
