Used car ads. Nowadays they're pretty mellow and laid back, but when I was just a little fella they used to look like this....
"Woo! baby this is Big D down here at Big D's Used Automobile Car Lot in Rhine Georgia baby! Let me tell you about this fabulous automobile I have right here! It is a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado and you can have it for only $4995 baby! These prices can't be beat! I am just an honest man baby but you might think I'm crazy with some of these low low prices Woo!" -Ron Daniels/Classic Ad Enthusiast
But a lot's changed over the years. Some say the ads are different because the customers are more well informed but there are those of us that harken back to the old days and just really miss those ads. Love 'em or hate 'em they did stick with you.
"Well I just think there's an art form that's been lost in recent times. If you look back to the earlier days when people ordered things from the Sears and Roebuck Catalog you had characters coming around who we often times refer to as snake oil salesmen nowadays but they were showmen and that's how they sold their product. I certainly remember a variety of commercials from my childhood and I remember 'em not because of this is a cool product or this is a nice shiny car but because of the showman who showed me the car." -Ron Daniels/Classic Ad Enthusiast
Perhaps one day characters like Big D will again find the limelight of the television airwaves, here's hoping that happens...and that's the deal.
